Four Local Voices Take Over the Porch & Pint

The Porch & Pint Pub is leaning into what it does best on Sunday, September 27: a relaxed neighbourhood setting, a pint within reach, and live music close enough to feel like part of the room rather than something happening at the far end of it. From 2 to 5:30 p.m., the pub hosts a four-artist afternoon featuring Leah Hawkins, Joslynn Burford, Katie Bath and Tami J Wilde, bringing together a mix of roots, country, blues, soul and local musical history.

Leah Hawkins comes to the show with one of the most recognizable musical family names in the region. She is the daughter of the late Ronnie Hawkins, the legendary rockabilly showman whose career helped shape the Canadian roots-rock scene. Leah is a singer-songwriter in her own right and also performed as a backup singer with her father, giving her first-hand experience inside a musical legacy that stretches back to the earliest days of rock ’n’ roll in Canada.

Joslynn Burford is firmly rooted in the Peterborough scene, with a voice that leans into soul, blues and roots music. She has been part of several local projects including The HippieChicks, My Back Pocket and Frequency, and has become a familiar presence at local jams, open mics and community music events.

Tami J Wilde brings a strong country-folk pedigree. Her résumé includes performances in Nashville, recognition from the Country Music Association of Ontario, and a long history of performing and songwriting in the Peterborough area. She has also appeared as part of Artsweek’s Porchapalooza programming, where she was billed in the country-folk tradition.

Katie Bath has also been part of the Peterborough-area live music scene for years, adding another experienced local voice to a lineup that feels less like a random collection of performers and more like a snapshot of the region’s roots-music community.

Put the four together and this becomes more than a casual Sunday-afternoon set. It’s a cross-section of local musical tradition, from the Hawkins rock ’n’ roll lineage through country, folk, blues and soul, all in the kind of small-room setting where songs and stories tend to land a little harder.
