What’s New at the Blackhorse this week!

The Black Horse has another full week of live music lined up, starting Monday night with one of Peterborough’s longest-running musical traditions.

Crash & Burn Jam hosts Rick & Gailie, JP Hovercraft, Brian Landry and Clifford Maynes take over Monday, July 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. The weekly session has now been running for more than 20 years, making it one of the city’s most enduring open-stage gatherings.

Joslynn Burford hosts the Black Horse Open Mic Tuesday at 6 p.m., welcoming local singers, musicians and songwriters to take a turn on stage.

Wednesday’s Local Artist Spotlight features Max Hoehn from 7 to 10 p.m. The weekly series introduces audiences to performers who are either new to the Black Horse stage or deserve a closer listen.

Carling Stephen and Rob Phillips lead Thursday Jazz & Blues Night from 7 to 10:30 p.m., backed by a full band and a mix of jazz, blues and live improvisation.

The weekend begins with a DJ Party Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday brings two shows. Peterborough singer-songwriter Lizeh Basciano performs from 5 to 8 p.m., blending country and jazz influences with original songs and classic covers. She has appeared at venues and events across the city, including Showplace, Market Hall, The Venue and Peterborough Musicfest.

Later Saturday, the Crooked Archers take the stage at 9 p.m. with special guest Bridget Foley and a set covering blues, R&B, pop and a few musical detours.

Brennen Sloan closes out the week Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Influenced by Canadian folk storytellers including Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver, Sloan writes about ordinary lives, love, loss and the Canadian landscape. His debut album, One For The Road, combines those larger stories with songs drawn from his own experiences.
