Live This Week at The Black Horse: Open Mics, Sister Harmonies and a Sunday Blues Throwdown

The Black Horse continues doing what it does best this week: giving Peterborough’s music scene a place to gather, discover new talent, and keep live music thriving seven nights a week.

Things kick off Tuesday (July 14) with Johann Burkhardt’s Open Mic at 6 p.m., where seasoned players and first-timers alike can take their shot under the lights.

On Wednesday (July 15), the venue’s Local Artist Spotlight turns its attention to John Goodchild from 7-10 p.m., continuing the Black Horse tradition of introducing audiences to emerging and established local performers.

Thursday (July 16) brings one of the week’s musical highlights as Carling Stephen and Rob Phillips lead an exceptional band through an evening of jazz and blues beginning at 7 p.m.

The weekend shifts into high gear on Friday (July 17) when Odd Man Rush takes the stage at 8 p.m.

Saturday offers a double bill. The Colton Sisters perform from 5-8 p.m., showcasing the rich harmonies only siblings seem capable of creating. Raised just outside Peterborough, Mary and Martha Colton have built a loyal following through festivals and venues across the region with their blend of heartfelt songwriting and acoustic charm.

Later that evening, The Electrick Herd plugs in at 9 p.m., delivering a genre-bending mix of roots rock, folk rock, alt-country and psychedelia that’s equal parts groove and sonic adventure.

The week wraps up Sunday (July 19) with Jethro’s Pop Up Blues Jam from 3-6 p.m., featuring The Al Black and Gary Peeples Band. Bring your instrument or just settle in with a pint—the afternoon promises plenty of improvisation and classic blues energy.

As always, there’s no shortage of reasons to make The Black Horse your live music headquarters this week.
