ReFrame 2027 Opens the Door for Filmmakers

ReFrame is once again calling for the kind of films that don’t just fill a screen, but rattle around in your head long after the credits roll. Submissions are now open for the 2027 ReFrame Film Festival, with the Early Bird deadline landing Friday, June 19, 2026.

At the centre of ReFrame has always been its film program: a carefully built collection of documentary films and media art meant to spark conversation, widen understanding, and, on a good night, light a small fire under the comfortable parts of the room. The festival has long made space for stories that challenge, connect, provoke, and imagine a more just world — which is another way of saying it is looking for work with a heartbeat and a point of view.

Filmmakers are the engine of that whole machine, and ReFrame is inviting both emerging and established voices to put their work forward. Anyone who knows a filmmaker with a story that belongs in the mix — or who has one of their own ready to share — can now make a submission for the 2027 festival.

ReFrame is also offering free submissions for all Indigenous filmmakers and filmmakers local to the Nogojiwanong/Peterborough area. Those looking for a waiver code can contact submissions@reframefilmfestival.ca.

The festival also notes that anyone facing financial or other barriers to submitting or accessing the festival is encouraged to reach out. ReFrame says it remains committed to working with filmmakers and audiences to support equitable access.
