Good Lovelies Bring the Sweet Stuff to Musicfest

Good Lovelies don’t need fireworks, smoke machines or a guy in leather pants yelling “Peterborough!” every four minutes. They have something far more dangerous: harmonies that actually stop people from checking their phones.

The Juno Award-winning Canadian folk trio brings its warm, beautifully stitched sound to Peterborough Musicfest, mixing songs from the new album We Will Never Be the Same with favourites from a catalogue that has made them one of the country’s most beloved folk-pop acts.

Formed in 2007, Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore have spent nearly two decades building a sound that feels both polished and personal — acoustic roots, pop instincts, sharp songwriting and the kind of vocal blend that can make even the most hardened lawn-chair cynic go quiet for a minute.

Their latest album finds the group returning to a more intimate acoustic place while digging into life, love, change and the strange business of figuring yourself out as the years keep piling up. It is thoughtful, human and full of the easy musical chemistry that has kept Good Lovelies moving across stages in North America, the U.K., Europe and Australia.

With five studio albums, two Christmas records and a devoted following behind them, Good Lovelies arrive with warmth, humour and musicianship in all the right places. No gimmicks required. Just three voices, a pile of songs, and the rare ability to make a big outdoor concert feel like it is happening right beside you.
