Irish Millie & Georgia Rose Bring Two Rising Voices to The Honky Tonk Angel

Irish Millie and Georgia Rose bring two of the Peterborough area’s rising young voices together at The Honky Tonk Angel in Springdale on Saturday, October 3, for an evening that reaches well beyond a standard country-bar bill.

At 19, Irish Millie has already built a national profile as a fiddler, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her roots are in Celtic and traditional fiddle music, but her recent work leans increasingly into contemporary folk and personal songwriting, with songs centred on connection, change and loss. She is a seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, including 2026 nominations connected to her EP Between Then and Now, and was also named the 2026 winner of the Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival. Millie has performed across Canada, the United States and Europe, including festival appearances in Denmark and Sweden, and has played to a hometown crowd of more than 10,000 at Peterborough Musicfest.

Her music has evolved considerably from the traditional fiddle foundation heard on her early album Thirteen. The newer material puts songwriting and vocals further forward while keeping that roots background close to the surface. Her official bio describes the approach as direct and emotionally immediate, and recent releases such as Between Then and Now and “Wasted” reflect that move toward a more contemporary folk-pop sound.

Georgia Rose, meanwhile, is a Lakefield singer-songwriter working in an indie-pop lane, drawing inspiration from artists including Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams and The Cranberries. Her songs combine melodic pop writing with an indie edge and a strong emphasis on storytelling. She placed in the top three at Peterborough’s Got Talent in 2024 and later won the Kawartha Lakes Singer/Songwriters Contest with her original song “Where Did We Go?”

Rose has been steadily building her catalogue as well. She released “Summer Weather” in 2025, followed by “Where Did We Go?”, “leave” and, most recently, “16” in August 2026. “Where Did We Go?” earned her Pop Song of the Year at the 2026 Pet Rock Radio New Music Awards, while her live résumé has expanded beyond Peterborough to dates in Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal and elsewhere. For this show, her website lists her appearance as Georgia Rose and The Thorns, sharing the bill with Irish Millie.

The combination should make for an interesting pairing: Millie bringing the fiddle-driven roots background and increasingly personal contemporary folk material, with Rose offering polished indie-pop songwriting and a full-band setting.
