Carole Pope, the firebrand singer/songwriter, co-founded Rough Trade, shaking things up with their signature electronic rock sound. Influenced by Punk, Glam, Brel, and Brill, their music and stage show didn’t just push boundaries of sexuality and politics—they smashed them. Designed to make you think and dance simultaneously, Rough Trade carved their place in fans’ hearts and playlists worldwide.

Pope is a 3-time Juno winner (Female Vocalist), 3-time CASBY winner, Genie Award-winner, inductee of Canada’s Walk of Fame, and member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Indie Hall of Fame. She’s also a 4X Gold, Platinum, and Polaris Prize Nominee. Her lyrics and live performances were a battle cry for revolution, paving the way for future Canadian female artists, both gay and straight, like Peaches, Tegan & Sara, and k.d. lang. Globally, she became a cult influence on icons like Madonna, Lady Gaga, and David Bowie. In 1983, Bowie invited Rough Trade to open the Canadian leg of his Serious Moonlight Tour, playing to crowds of up to 60,000.
