Few artists possess the storytelling prowess and keen observational skills of Andy Shauf. The Toronto-based, Saskatchewan-raised musician crafts songs that unfold like intricate short stories, teeming with colorful characters and profound emotional layers.

Shauf’s eighth studio album, Norm (2023), weaves a shimmering narrative punctuated by unsettling silences. It’s akin to the pop and hiss of a needle on a turntable after a song ends—an emptiness that opens like a trapdoor into something both tender and terrifying.

Shauf’s prior works have garnered him critical acclaim and a reputation for compelling television performances. His 2016 album, The Party, was lauded by The Sunday Times for its “killer lyrics in music of extraordinary beauty.” Meanwhile, his 2020 release, The Neon Skyline, earned praise from Pitchfork for creating “a wistful, funny, and heartbreaking world” set against the backdrop of a night at a bar.
